What Exit On My Own is, and what it isn't.

Comparative analysis, not certified appraisal

Exit On My Own provides a comparative analysis of your business based on publicly available comparable sales, industry multiples, and the financial information you provide. This is not a certified business appraisal or valuation, and it is not prepared by a licensed business appraiser.

A certified appraisal (the kind used in divorce proceedings, estate planning, or tax disputes) typically costs $5,000 to $15,000 and is prepared under USPAP or AICPA standards. Exit On My Own's comparative analysis is intended for one purpose: to help you understand what your business is likely to sell for in the open market. If you need a certified appraisal for legal, tax, or financing decisions, consult a licensed appraiser.

Exit On My Own is not a law firm

Exit On My Own and its brokers do not provide legal advice. Templates, document reviews, and broker guidance (including guidance on letters of intent, purchase agreements, bills of sale, non-disclosure agreements, and any other documents) are provided for informational and operational purposes only.

Before signing or relying on any legal document, consult a licensed attorney in the relevant jurisdiction. Exit On My Own partners with attorneys who specialize in small-business M&A and can refer you to one if you don't already have one.

Broker representation

When Exit On My Own works on a sale, Exit On My Own and its brokers represent the seller. Exit On My Own does not represent buyers. Buyers are advised to retain their own attorney, accountant, and lender for independent counsel.

No financial certification

Exit On My Own does not audit, review, or certify financial information provided by sellers. Buyers are responsible for their own due diligence and should engage qualified professionals to verify any information before closing.

Where Exit On My Own is available

Some states require a real estate license to broker the sale of a business. Where that is the case, Exit On My Own does not currently offer its full-service, commission-based representation and geo-fences those states out until we are licensed or partnered with a licensed broker there. The self-guided valuation tools and the Academy remain available everywhere; the note below applies only to full-service brokerage.

States that currently require a license to sell a business (full-service not yet available): Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois (registration with the state securities commission is required rather than a license), Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

On our watch list (no license required today, but the rules could change): Hawaii, Kentucky, and Michigan (a recent licensing requirement was nullified by a court, and the legislature may choose to act).

This list can change at any time. We confirm availability for your state before any engagement begins.
